7 Leadership Styles* & How They Impact Your Ministry: #7 TRUST

 

Comforting Presence Comforting Presence

If your dominant personality Advantage** is Trust you are a leader who builds loyalty. You are also experienced as increasing the sense of stability and predictability in your community. You will be seen as a comforting presence and person too. Your messages and style of communication are very consistent, which builds a sense of dependability. You usually look to the past as a guide for your actions, often relying on what’s been tried and worked well before. This also means that you can help people remember what’s been useful and worked well in your community’s past, including the traditions that have served them well. You offer steady support to members of your staff and community.

As with the other Advantages, when Trust is your dominant Advantage there are a couple of areas where a word of caution is in order. Your desire to comfort and care for others means that you can put the needs of others before your own and/or before the needs of your family. Not only can this bring on stress and burn out, but some others will sense this and try to take advantage of you in this way. Since you value traditions and the past, radical changes will be very uncomfortable for you. For those who love change and trying new things you can be perceived as a ‘stick-in-the-mud.’ Change is possible for those with a dominant Advantage of Trust, as long as there is clear consistency with the past. If you cannot find and voice this sort of consistency with the past, change (even small ones) will be resisted by yourself and others with a dominant Trust Advantage.

Remember Paul’s words (Romans 12 & 1 Corinthians 12) that we are each a member of the body of Christ. Each part/member of the body has gifts to offer to the whole. No matter what our part is, we are not the whole of the body and cannot go it alone. Whatever your primary Advantage is, those whose dominant Advantage is Trust, have a gift from God. May you use your dominant Advantage in gratitude to God and for the blessing of those you serve.
